Peptic ulcer is related with an eroded lesion in the inner lining of the stomach and also the adjoining intestinal tract called the duodenum. When the ulcer is located in the stomach it is known as a gastric ulcer. When the ulcer is located in the duodenum it is called a duodenal ulcer. When both the ulcer combines together, it is termed as peptic ulcer.
A peptic ulcer is caused due to hyperacidity. Hyperacidity is the result of excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The cells lining the stomach secrets the strong acid and erodes the inner lining of the stomach. The factors like dietetic indiscretion like overeating, intake of coffee, alcohol, taking of heavy meals or highly spiced foods and smoking contributes to the condition of peptic ulcer. Some other causes of peptic ulcer are indigestion of certain drugs, certain infections, food poisoning, gout, emotional disturbance, stress and nervous tension.
Some of the symptoms of peptic ulcer are severe and sharp pain. It causes discomfort in the upper part of the abdomen. Usually the pain due to gastric ulcer occurs approximately after meal. It occurs rarely at night. The pain due to duodenal ulcer occurs when our stomach is empty and between the meals. The pain is minimized or relieved by the intake of some food especially milk. There is distension of the stomach with the progress of the disease due to excessive flatulence, insomnia, mental tension, and also due to gradual weakening of the body. Sometimes there may be blood in the stool also.

It neutralizes the over-acidity of the gastric juices. People especially who are in advanced stage must prefer to take two bananas in addition to a glass of milk at least three to four times a day.
3. A tea prepared with the seeds of fenugreek is an effective remedy to cure peptic ulcer. It also helps in the healing of the ulcers. It provides protective shell for the ulcers.
