Herbal Remedies for Sprain



Back sprains are very common injury. Most of us have had a slight sprain at one time or another in our life. Ankle sprains are common injury in athletes.

Lifting heavy objects, twisting your body sharply to one side or standing for long periods of time are the main causes for sprain and strain. Accidents, slipping and athletics can also cause back sprain. Sprain and strain can be heal within 4 weeks and can improve in few days.

Sprains and strains can be cure by doing exercises that stretch and strengthen the back, joints and stomach muscles. Having a good posture and maintaining an ideal weight can also take away the risk of back sprain and ankle sprain.

The signs of an ankle injury are pain or bruising, stiffness, tenderness, swelling and an inability to put weight on the joints.

Natural Remedies for Sprain

Below are the natural remedies that are found useful in the treatment of sprain:



- Take complete rest to prevent further injury to the area and to healing. Ice massage, ice packs are important to keep the swelling down and prevent muscle spasms. Don’t leave ice on the skin too long as it can be harmful for nerves. Use ice massage every 3-4 hours for the first 2-3 days after the injury. After 2-3 days you can start little bit hot massage.

- Wrap the ankle for couple of days to prevent more swelling and bruising. Keep injured area about heart level or above to prevent the swelling and bruising. Keep the ankle elevated or labeled for about 3-4 hours a day. If you have extreme swelling or bruises or pain and you can't move then you should immediately consult to your doctor.

- Eat a healthy and balance diet with lots of fruits and vegetables to keep muscles, bones and tissues strong.
