Following are some of the simple tips for mumps:

- Just like other viral infections, mumps have also high transmission rate. So it is advisable to keep and wash the utensils of the affected person separately.

- It is also advised to avoid physical contact with the patient.

- Since some strains of paramyxovirus can be passed through urine, it is important to keep the clothing separate and wash them separately.

- The neck should not be exposed to cold winds. Cover it with a scarf or a shawl.

- The person suffering with mumps should not be allowed to get wet much.

- Patient suffering from mumps should take enough rest and sleep.

- While sleeping, it is necessary to keep the body covered with a sheet.

- Care must be taken while coughing or sneezing, since that can spread the paramyxovirus through the saliva.

- Patient suffering from mumps should have separate bed, separate lunch and dinner plate as mumps infections are transferable.

- Give liquid foods like rice water (kanji). It can be flavored with some ghee and taken along with a piece of pickle of raw mango.

- The foods given to the patient should not be acidic. Avoid citrus juices and curds from the patient diet.

- Drink water and vegetable soups that are not citric.

- Childhood vaccination against mumps infection is a must.

- Do not take the vaccination if you are expecting your baby during those nine months.

- Spices such as garlic, ginger and black pepper are good for the patient.

- Strictly avoid all kinds of oily and pungent foods. They could make the fever last longer.

Home Remedies for Mumps

Following are some of the effective home remedies for mumps:



- Mullein tea is very beneficial in the treatment of mumps. They help in killing various germs and infections. They are rich in minerals, vitamins, and are blood purifier. Take a cotton piece and dip it into the mullein tea and then squeeze the excess liquid and apply that hot padded cotton on mumps affected area. It will give relief from the mumps pain.

- Take 3-4 peepal leaves and on the cooking pan let the leaves get heated and then coat some oil over it and heat again. Take it out of the burner and apply on mumps affected area this reduces swellings, inflammation, and kills germs.

- You can also try this simple home remedy for mumps. Apply a fresh ginger paste externally on the swollen and painful area of mumps especially cheeks.

Herbal Remedies for Mumps

Following are some of the effective herbal remedies for mumps:

- Mix one tablespoon of asparagus (shatavari) seeds and one tablespoon fenugreek (methi) seeds and make its paste and apply on mumps-affected area. This gives relief, reduces swelling and also kills mumps infections.

- Aloe vera (ghritkumari) is another useful herb in the treatment of mumps. Take fresh leaves of aloe vera and make its paste or take aloe vera powder and make a smooth paste and apply on mumps affected area. This relieves pain and swelling.
