Dermatitis is a condition of the inflammation of the skin .The skin becomes red or swollen and itches and one tends to scratch it, thus making it itch even more which in turn is sometimes followed by a drop or two of blood . This is also referred to as eczema or fungal infection.
Though dermatitis is not contagious, it is often hereditary. Other reasons for aggravating dermatitis could be solvents, heat, smoke or stress and deficiency of Vitamins in the body. Dermatitis could appear on the arms, legs or even buttocks of infants or adults.
However there are a few easy and economical home remedies for dermatitis. The dry and patchy skin should always be kept moist in order to prevent itching. Always bathe in lukewarm water, and avoid too hot or too cold water. Wear loose fitted clothes made of cotton instead of polyester or wool.
A gauge can be dipped in cool iced milk and applied on the affected area. Dampen the gauge again after some time and repeat. Calamine lotions are easily available at all drugstores and are known to be the best healer for most skin ailments. Apply calamine to soothe the itching.
Some allergies could be the result of one being allergic to a certain food. While some people are allergic to milk and dairy products, for others it could be orange juice, nuts or anything else. This should be observed and that particular food should be avoided.
Cutting down on processed sugar and drinking ginger tea could relieve some people of their dermatitis. Honey is a great antiseptic and if applied on the affected area, it cleanses the skin and removes dryness, thus controlling the itching.
Some people could be allergic to certain kinds of metals especially nickel. Even gold jewelry mixed with nickel or nickel plated jewelry can be irritable, so one should avoid wearing jewelry of this particular metal and go in for pure gold jewelry instead.
Blueberries are excellent solution to soothe the inflammated skin. A lotion of blueberries can be applied on the affected area. It is also advisable to consume zinc orally and even apply it on the skin.
Vitamin B capsules are helpful for a healthy skin, thus reducing the aggravation. Biotin pills too can avert inflammation. A humidifier can be used in the room to keep the air moist. And applying petroleum jelly is also a good idea.
Cut the nails short to avoid scratching too hard on the inflammated skin. Mixing soda or oatmeal to the water in the bathtub can give some relief. Camphor and sandalwood too have the cooling effect on an itchy skin. A paste of these two mixed in equal quantities is recommended.
A diet rich in potassium consisting of apricots, bananas, yellow vegetables and peaches is considered to heal the skin naturally. Make a paste of neem leaves and add little turmeric powder to it. Then apply it on the affected skin. An equal quantity of carrot juice and spinach juice is a good natural remedy.
